A bit about me. I am graduating from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia in 2017 with a BCOM (Advertising). At the age of 12, and needing money to buy football cards, I taught myself HTML and other web languages and began creating freelance websites. In 2012 I started working at March Studio as the IT Coordinator, whilst running my web design business and finishing school. It was around this time I realised what good could be achieved with the web, so I started Computing Aspects, with Alex Nielsen - a free computing help website. In 2015 I began my BCOM (Advertising) to expand my marketing knowledge and also founded The Student Network with Charlie Mcmillan Summons - a 100% free resource website aiming to help students navigate the challenges of VCE. Currently over 33% of VCE students use the website. In late 2015 I took up a e-commerce coordination role Interdyn, where I am currently in charge of managing and developing 10 brand websites and an overreaching e-commerce platform. In late 2016 after being frustrated with poor advertising internships, I founded Clutch Creative with Marisa Jayne, Joshua Brown, Nick Rushbrook and Dane Clifford-Wolfe, a communications agency that complete various degrees of creative work for a diverse range of clients.

The Student Network
PhilanthropySEOWeb Development
In 2015, after completing my VCE studies, I started The Student Network - a curated online space for VCE students to gain advice, access resources and contact tutors. The goal of The Student Network is to allow VCE students to have more free-time to pursue their interests and remove the anxiety associated with VCE examinations and assessments. We realised that many students we’re burdened by VCE in such a way that it caused reactive effects in other parts of their lives. This coupled with the knowledge that many students didn’t have people or places to turn to when in need of assistance, drove us to create The Student Network. With $0 investment, self taught SEO marketing has turned this platform into a fully-dependent student resource, with over 33% of VCE students using it each year for the last 2 years.

The Queen's Fund
PhilanthropyWeb DesignWeb DevelopmentClutch Creative
In 2017, on the 130 year anniversary of The Queen’s Fund - a fund set up by Lady Loch in 1887 to encourage women to increase their self-worth, skills and knowledge, Clutch Creative was engaged to redesign and develop The Queen’s Fund’s web platform - aiming to bring a new sense of 21st life to the charity. Drawing off the long history of the fund and the marvelous work they do to help women across Victoria, Clutch Creative created a new sleek website that allows for digital donation and serves as an information point to women in need. The website was launched at Melbourne Townhall at a celebration of the 130 year anniversary of The Queen’s Fund.

WikiCert
Brand StrategyDigital MediaAKQA Future Lion - Shortlist
In 2017 I entered and was shortlisted for the AKQA’s Cannes Lions Future Lion Award with 4 students from RMIT BCom (Advertising). Negotiating a brief asking us to use new technology to link an audience with a brand, we looked at some of the common issues surrounding the world at the time. In the hysteria post the 2016 US presidential election, the topic of ‘Fake News’ and how one could sort through information to determine truth was at an all-time high. We decided to tackle this issue and represent Wikipedia, a brand who is struggling with an age-old problem of information on their website lacking credibility due to it’s crowdsourced nature. We came up with the idea to create a web-browser extension that scans articles using AI and pulls sources from them. This system then gives articles a credibility ranking based on the previous accuracy of its sources and verification from alternative references. The user is presented this information in non-invasive, light background highlight, allowing people to easily scroll through an article to get a glimpse of how certified the reporting is. For the first time multiple sources can be linked to an article containing little referencing and users can make up their own minds, with clear succinct information, about what is fake news and what is fact.

Desperados - Good Conductors
PR ActivationPositive ChangeAnimation
In response to the 2017 D&AD New Blood Desperados Brief I developed the idea for the Desperados Good Conductors Festival with 4 students from RMIT BCom (Advertising). The brief was to create a new activation to incite positive change for Desperados’ Inner Tequila Studios - ‘a platform creating content and experiences driven by innovation and experimentation with music at its heart.’ In response to this my team developed Desperados Good Conductors festival - an electronic music festival, at which the experience becomes more enjoyable based on the amount of good performed by participants. Drawing from the insight that millennials are less likely to get involved in progressive change movements than other generations, because they believe their impact won’t make a difference, we wanted to show that a lot of people making a small positive change can deliver big results. We chose five issues to handle: safety, gender equality, environmental cleanliness, health, and online activity and used technology to measure actions at the festival relating to these issues. This information was then fed into the performing DJ’s decks and was used to alter the music. Resulting in an effect where positive action at the festival drove a positive experience. We also made sure each action could be repeated outside the festival, so millennials were able to take their new-found ability to make change and apply it to real world situations.
Edit: Upon reviewing the winners of this competition we realised that our idea was probably too complex to be awarded. In hindsight it would've been better to tackle a single issue rather than try to group all six issues together. We could have centered the festival around an area or location affected by this single issue, making the concept more powerful and realistic. We still believe however, using a music festival to drive change, based on our insight, is a strong and effective idea.
